How Much Does an AI Chatbot Cost in Mauritius?

7 min readPublished 2026-08-04By The Mosaic Code

The Question Behind the Question

"How much does an AI chatbot cost?" is the first question every business asks. The real question is: "What am I actually paying for, and will it work for my business?" This guide answers both.

What Affects the Price

Five factors determine what you pay.

1. Number of Channels

A chatbot on your website costs less than a chatbot that works on WhatsApp, your website, and Facebook Messenger simultaneously. Each channel has its own integration requirements. WhatsApp requires Meta Business verification, template approval, and API setup. Website chat is simpler. Facebook has its own SDK.

Single channel (website only): Rs 50,000 to Rs 100,000. Multi-channel (WhatsApp + website + Facebook): Rs 120,000 to Rs 250,000.

2. Knowledge Base Complexity

A chatbot that answers 10 questions about your opening hours costs less than a chatbot that references your entire product catalogue, pricing, policies, and documentation. The more information the chatbot needs to access, the more work goes into building and maintaining the knowledge base.

Simple FAQ (10 to 20 questions): Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000. Full product catalogue with pricing: Rs 100,000 to Rs 180,000. Complex knowledge base with multiple data sources: Rs 150,000 to Rs 300,000.

3. Integrations

A chatbot that sits alone costs less than one that connects to your inventory system, CRM, accounting software, or booking platform. Each integration adds development work.

No integrations: base price. One integration (e.g., inventory check): add Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000. Multiple integrations: add Rs 50,000 to Rs 100,000 per integration.

4. Language Support

English-only is the cheapest option. Adding French doubles the training work. Adding Creole requires additional language model tuning. In Mauritius, where customers message in all three languages, multilingual support is usually necessary.

English only: base price. English + French: add 30% to 50%. English + French + Creole: add 50% to 80%.

5. Ongoing Costs

The build cost is not the only cost. Running an AI chatbot in Mauritius involves monthly expenses.

Hosting: Rs 2,000 to Rs 8,000 per month. AI model usage (API calls): Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000 per month depending on volume. Maintenance and updates: Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. WhatsApp conversation charges: variable based on message volume.

Total monthly cost: Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 per month for a typical deployment.

Realistic Price Ranges

Basic Chatbot: Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000

What you get: a chatbot that answers common questions using a predefined FAQ. Website widget only. No WhatsApp. No integrations. English only.

Who it works for: small businesses that want to handle basic after-hours inquiries. Restaurants, clinics, professional firms with simple questions.

Professional Chatbot: Rs 80,000 to Rs 180,000

What you get: WhatsApp integration. Knowledge base trained on your products and services. Bilingual support (English and French). Basic integrations (inventory check, appointment booking). Escalation to human agents.

Who it works for: businesses that handle customer inquiries on WhatsApp. Retail stores, service providers, healthcare clinics.

Enterprise Chatbot: Rs 180,000 to Rs 400,000

What you get: multi-channel deployment. Trilingual support. Multiple integrations. Custom workflows. Analytics dashboard. Payment processing through MCB Juice. Advanced escalation logic.

Who it works for: businesses with high inquiry volumes, complex products, or strict compliance requirements. E-commerce, financial services, hospitality.

What You Are Actually Paying For

The Build

Development time is the largest cost component. A professional chatbot requires: conversation flow design, knowledge base creation, integration development, testing across channels, and template approval for WhatsApp.

The Training

The chatbot needs to be trained on your specific business. This means feeding it your product information, policies, pricing, and procedures. The more detailed the training, the better the chatbot performs.

The Integration

Connecting the chatbot to your existing systems (inventory, CRM, booking, payments) requires development work. Each integration has its own API, its own quirks, and its own maintenance requirements.

The Testing

A chatbot that works in a demo but fails in production is worthless. Proper testing includes: response accuracy testing, escalation testing, load testing, language testing, and edge case testing.

How to Avoid Overpaying

Red Flag: No WhatsApp Integration

If the quote does not include WhatsApp Business API integration, the chatbot will not work on the channel your customers actually use. WhatsApp is not optional in Mauritius.

Red Flag: No Training Data Discussion

If the developer does not ask about your products, services, and policies, they plan to build a generic chatbot. Generic chatbots give generic answers. Your customers deserve better.

Red Flag: No Escalation Path

If the chatbot cannot hand off to a human when it does not know the answer, you will frustrate customers. The escalation feature is what separates a useful chatbot from a liability.

Red Flag: One-Time Pricing with No Maintenance

A chatbot is not a website. It needs updates when your products change, your policies update, or your pricing shifts. If the quote includes no ongoing support, you are on your own after launch.

The ROI Calculation

Before spending money on a chatbot, calculate the return.

How many customer inquiries does your team handle per day? If it is 20, and each takes 5 minutes, that is 100 minutes or about 1.5 hours of staff time daily. At Rs 500 per hour, that is Rs 750 per day or Rs 15,000 per month.

A chatbot that handles 60% of those inquiries saves Rs 9,000 per month in staff time. The chatbot costs Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 per month to run. The math works when the chatbot reduces workload enough to avoid hiring, or when the speed of response generates measurable revenue.

What We Charge

We build professional AI chatbots starting at Rs 80,000 for WhatsApp integration with knowledge base. Multi-channel deployments start at Rs 150,000. Ongoing support and maintenance is a separate monthly contract.

We do not build Rs 20,000 template chatbots. We build custom solutions that actually answer your customers' questions accurately.
