Mauritius Just Made It Easier for Tech Companies to Set Up. Here Is How.
Mauritius has changed the rules for international founders and tech companies. The Budget 2026/27 introduced new immigration pathways that make it significantly easier to set up and operate from Mauritius.
The Golden Visa
The Golden Visa is the headline change. It offers residency to investors who commit capital to qualifying sectors.
What You Need
A minimum investment of USD 1 million within 12 months of receiving the visa. The investment must go into a qualifying sector: financial services, fintech, ICT, tourism and hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare and wellness, education, renewable energy, blue economy, creative industries, or other innovative and knowledge-based sectors.

What You Get
Residency for you and your family. Fast-track concierge service from the EDB. Work permits for domestic workers within 5 working days. A clear path to long-term residency in a jurisdiction with strong rule of law, political stability, and international connectivity.
Who This Is For
Tech company founders looking for a base in the Indian Ocean. Fintech startups wanting access to African markets. International businesses needing a stable, well-regulated jurisdiction. Digital nomads and remote workers who want more than a tourist visa.
The New Investor Occupation Permit
For smaller investments, the Investor Occupation Permit has been updated.
New Requirements
Minimum initial investment: USD 100,000. From year 3: annual turnover of at least MUR 5 million. From year 5: annual turnover of at least MUR 8 million for renewal.
The Shift
The old rules focused on the initial investment. The new rules focus on business performance over time. This is deliberate. Mauritius wants investors who build real businesses, not just park money.
Who This Is For
Small to medium tech companies. Founders who want to build a team in Mauritius. Businesses that plan to grow, not just establish a presence.
The Self-Employed Professional Path
If you are a solo professional or small consultancy, the Self-Employed Occupation Permit has also been updated.
Requirements
Minimum annual business income of MUR 2 million from year 3.
Why Mauritius for Tech
The immigration changes are not standalone. They sit on top of a broader push to attract tech businesses:
