Tourism Resilience in Seychelles: Practical Systems for Small Operators

5 min readPublished 2026-10-31By The Mosaic Code

Resilience starts with ordinary operating information

Tourism businesses in Seychelles depend on people, infrastructure and natural assets that can be affected by disruption. A small accommodation provider may coordinate bookings, maintenance, supplies and guest communication with a limited team. Scattered records can make it harder to see what needs attention first.

A report launched by the Government of Seychelles and the World Bank Group on 27 March 2026 examines climate and development risks. The Ministry of Finance’s summary says climate-related economic pressures could reduce Seychelles’ GDP by more than 6% by 2050 without action. It identifies tourism and fisheries among sectors exposed to sea-level rise, coastal erosion, marine heatwaves and extreme rainfall. These are national findings and projections, not a forecast for a particular hotel or tour operator. They do make resilience a practical management issue for businesses that depend on reliable facilities, suppliers and visitor services.

Keep information that helps you act

Which rooms or assets need maintenance? Which bookings are confirmed, pending or changed? Which supplies are running low? Who responds to a guest or contacts a supplier if service is interrupted?

A small operator can track these items in a well-maintained spreadsheet or appropriate booking and property system. Staff need to find the current information, know who owns the next action and update it consistently. If the same details are entered in several places, agree which record is authoritative.

Where practical, record energy and water use alongside occupancy and operating costs. A baseline can help a business notice unusual changes and make informed decisions about maintenance or investment. Software alone does not guarantee lower bills; savings depend on the property, equipment, conditions and actions taken.

Plan for interruptions

Write down first steps for common disruptions, such as a water interruption, equipment failure or severe weather warning. Include who makes decisions, how guests are informed, where essential contacts are kept and how reservations or service changes are recorded. Review the plan with staff who may need to use it.

A shared contact list and clear handover may be enough for a small team. If several properties, teams or booking channels are involved, a purpose-built system may help coordinate information. The design should fit the operator’s workflow rather than add administration staff cannot maintain.

Make technology serve a measured need

The World Bank report discusses renewable energy and infrastructure opportunities at national scale. Those findings are not guaranteed savings for an individual firm. Establish your own baseline and define what you want to improve: missed maintenance actions, booking visibility, supply planning or guest updates.

When the process is understood, software can support it. See [custom platform services](/services/custom-platforms) and [digital transformation services](/services/digital-transformation). For tourism SMEs, resilience also means accurate records, clear responsibility and preparation for foreseeable interruptions. These habits provide a sound basis for any later software investment.
